Mysteriously injured, Medax is saved by a peculiar girl whose body is composed of constantly shifting rocks. These intertwining plotlines come to a climax at the Lux Aestiva festival, where all of the characters are forced to face the uncomfortable truths about the flaws within themselves and their society.

For a first novel, this is a fun and well thought out story. I loved Medax with his boyish charm and humor and I also was pulled into the innocent world of Ludisse, the young child caught up in a fight that wasn't necessarily his own. Fasces is a wonderful character whose motivations I understood but whose actions I was torn about. There are funny and touching moments as well as deeper undertones that address issues such as racism and inherent prejudices. I hope to see more from this new author: I could read more about the wet world of Mar and the dry tunnel world of Uietmanu!Product details

Adventure, fantasy, magic, intriguing story with colorful characters, it was hard to put it down
I thought this book was great. I read it in 2 days, it was interesting and addictive. IF you get this book you should plan on
reading for quite awhile because you can't put it down.

This was disappointingly executed. The author really botched what could have been a good idea.
By Force of Hand is an adventure set in a luxurious fantasy city on the sea with a dark underside. It has great world building, memorable, sympathetic characters, and both humor and drama. I strongly reccomend this book!
